I was thinking about this question this morning while I was eating breakfast. All of this stemmed from a few people telling me about the BET Awards. A few thoughts came across my mind related to whether or not hip hop artists should continue to make videos any more. Do they really gain anything? Just a little bit more exposure perhaps. I remember back some time ago people used to be excited and interviewers would ask when a video was going to premier and it was such a big deal. Now through social media and commenting I rarely see or hear a person asking when a video will ever drop. It just seems like it’s more about obtaining the mp3 or m4a nowadays. Continue reading →
Much respect goes out to Jigga for his lyrical talent. The way he pieces his words together with so much care is unremarkable especially when he comes off the head with most of it. Almost ever verse Jay-Z delivers is potent and precise. His first verse from ‘This Life Forever’ has always stood out in my mind, mainly because of the descriptiveness of verse. So finally we have the most anticipated album of the year, “Watch The Throne”, from Jay-Z and Kanye West. I can’t lie, I had no clue what to expect unlike my partner so I was curious to see how this project turned out. Let’s get into it….
“Human being to the mob / What’s a mob to a king? / What’s a king to a god? / What’s a god to a non-believer / Who don’t believe in anything? / Will he make it out alive? / Alright alright / No church in the wild”
Jay drops a memorable verse filled with religious references, questions and truth, definitely worth a listen. In the middle of the track, someone starts singing, I have to check the iTunes because it sounds like Last Train To Paris playing. It’s The Dream singing followed by Kanye, who also lays a nice verse with notable bars like,
Two tattoos one read No Apologies, the other said Love Is Cursed By Monogamy / It’s somethin’ that the pastor don’t preach / It’s somethin’ thata teacher can’t teach / When we die the money we can’t keep, but we probably spend it all cuz the pain ain’t cheap …Preach -Kanye West
I’m feeling this track. I always liked albums that start out with some raw, thought-provoking rhymes, this is it. My hopes are high as I continue through the album. Sidenote: You hear those monkeys at the end? Haha.
Looking at that tweet from months ago, I smh in disgust. Such a long wait for an album that will probably be played out after a few decent spins. But someone else begs to differ. Peep what I came across earlier today.
